The Chenango Arts Council's Grants for Teachers program provides grants to teachers up to $500 to allow students to experience the arts in their community. Funds are used to buy musical instruments and art supplies, to pay for buses for trips to the theatre and museums, among many other creative initiatives. Monies are used for those things our schools no longer have budgets for and creative experiences our children have been deprived of. Often we hear of teachers bringing their own supplies into the classroom for students because of the lack of funding. I recognize the GFT program won't solve completely the diminishing of arts education in our schools, but it would certainly make a clear statement to the members of our community that we do believe in the power of the arts to change the world.
My hope is that every one of us donate at least $100 to this fund - Golden Artist Colors will match the donations up to a total of $5,000.
We need to start somewhere. How about here? How about now?
