2019 Riverside Strings Pilot Program

This project is a continuation of a pilot program of strings (violin) instruction at Riverside Elementary, which ran from September to December of 2018. The program seeks to establish themselves as a permanent fixture in the learning process of students so they are more adept to the arts.

Chenango St. Underpass

The Dept. of Public Art will paint a large scale mural in the newly constructed underpass on Chenango St. with the theme of healthy lifestyles, including images of fruits and vegetables. The designs will also feature images that promote physical activities such as running, stretching, and jumping.

Barbara Gregson will be directing a 13-day theater residency where she will train kids on the art of mime, mask perfomance, acting, improvisation, voice, and set design. To conclude their efforts, the kids will have 2 live performances of their original show, with an addition of 4 students drawing sections of the set, live, during the performances using easels and large pieces of paper to match the stories being told.

From jewelers, painters, sculptors, fabric artists, furniture makers, photographers, basketweavers, and so much more talents to be shown at this wonderful event. Amidst all of the commotion, there will be two stages of musical performances with a large roster of world-class talent with flood the streets with music and delight!
