X-WR-CALDESC:\n\n‘Ann Walsh: Colors’\n\nThe Sam & Adele Golden Gallery\, 18
 8 Bell Road\, New Berlin\, NY\nOctober 6\, 2018 – March 15\, 2019\nOpening
  Reception October 6 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.\n\nThe exhibition 'Ann Wal
sh: Colors' opens on Saturday October 6th\, 2018 at the Sam & Adele Golden
Gallery (The SAGG) at Golden Artist Colors\, Inc.\n\nThis survey of abstr
act paintings and sculptures by artist Ann Walsh underscores her commitmen
t to the expressive possibilities of color and her investigations of the u
se of new materials for making art. Walsh has lived in New York City and m
aintained a studio there since 1980. An illustrated catalog with an essay
by artist and critic Franklin Einspruch entitled\, 'Ann Walsh's Mechanics
of Color' will be available.\n\nThe exhibition begins with several 'revers
e paintings' from the 1980s\, in which acrylics were painted in layers on
a flexible plastic support that enabled the final image to be developed wi
th the top layer having been created first. After drying\, Walsh removed t
he acrylic lamination from the flexible support and adhered it to stretche
d canvas.\n\nThe chronology of the show proceeds with works that become mo
re sculptural. These use a variety of substrates to reinforce the color se
lections and explore shifts in both the scale of the works and the densiti
es of color.\n\nThe most recent paintings were created in 2018 with HVLP s
pray guns. The sprayed acrylic allows for a literal solidity of color and
allows viewers to engage in the immersion of the color explorations of Ann
Walsh.\n\nIn his essay about Ann Walsh's works in the show\, Franklin Ein
spruch states\, '... a Walsh is orienting\, emphatically so. In particular
it orients the viewer to a surface\, with implicit\, spinal-cord-level in
structions to regard it aesthetically.'\n\nTo learn more about Walsh and h
er artwork\, visit http://www.ann-walsh.com/index.htm. Go to The Sam & Ade
le Golden Gallery website\, www.thesagg.org for more information. Visiting
hours for The SAGG are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.\nEven
