 WAER FM The Earlville Opera House will host an evening with folk icon and 
 activist Peter Yarrow August 12 at 8 PM\, sponsored by WAER FM. Known for 
 his songwriting\, sound quality and commitment to excellence\, Peter Yarro
 w\, along with Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers\, made up the popular fo
 lk group Peter\, Paul & Mary. The trio produced such standard '60s hits as
  'Blowin' in the Wind\,' 'If I Had a Hammer' and 'Puff the Magic Dragon'\;
  much of their music centered around the social issues and concerns of the
  times\, including war\, homelessness\, the environment\, world hunger\, a
 partheid and the Sanctuary Movement. Yarrow's ability to write songs about
  social concerns has made him an internationally recognized singer and son
 gwriter. Peter\, Paul and Mary played their first show at Greenwich Villag
 e's Bitter End\, and their first album was released by Warner Brothers Rec
 ords in 1962. In the 1960s\, Greenwich Village was a hotbed of issues\, pa
 rticularly civil rights and the Vietnam War\, and Yarrow eagerly jumped in
 to the fray of political activity. The group was at the forefront of the f
 olk-protest movement\, and they sang songs of social justice at the histor
 ic March on Washington\, D.C.—led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—as well as
  the Selma-Montgomery March of 1965. The trio toured together for nearly 1
 0 years\, before breaking up in 1970 to pursue individual careers. Yarrow 
 continued to write music\, including Mary MacGregor's No. 1 hit\, 'Torn Be
 tween Two Lovers.” Yarrow produced 'Light One Candle\,' written for the pe
 ace process in Israel in 1985\, and continues to perform and engage in soc
 ial issues today. Peter Yarrow will perform at the Earlville Opera House A
 ugust 12 at 8 PM. Tickets are $40 general\, $35 members\, and $20 students
