Ceramic Hand Building and Throwing Pottery Class

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- January 10, 2012
The Chenango County Council of the Arts is pleased to offer a “Spring Ceramic Hand Building and Throwing Pottery Class” on Tuesdays from 5:30-8pm beginning on March 6. The course is designed for beginner to intermediate levels, and will run through May 1 (no class on Tuesday, April 10).
Spring Ceramics is designed to teach a variety of clay processes. The course is taught by Matthew Wilson, current Norwich Middle School art teacher and former adjunct professor of ceramics at SUNY Oswego (visit his website at: www.Wilsoneramics.com). The 8 week course explores the processes of hand-building and wheel throwing. The course will also teach a variety of techniques and concentrate on the functional side of clay. Come join the experience of clay and create works of art for the home and friends! Also available 1 on 1 wheel throwing lesson at an additional rate.
The class fee is $135 for members of the CCCA, $140 for non-members, and includes instruction, tools firing, glaze, and 25lb of clay. A minimum of 8 students is needed to run the course. Please call the CCCA at 607-336-2787/ARTS to register.

Robbie O'Connell (The Clancy Brothers) and Aoife Clancy (Cherish the Ladies) are the next generation of the Clancy Brothers clan. The first cousins got together for a workshop called "The Clancy Legacy" during the New York Irish Arts Week in 2006 and continue to do concerts together. They have recently been joined by George Keith on fiddle and Erik Wendelken on double bass. A terrific way to start your St. Patrick’s Day celebration! GRANT OPPORTUNITIES
2012 Broome, Chenango & Otsego Decentralization Program
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- November 15, 2011
The Chenango County Council of the Arts (CCCA) is pleased to announce continued funding for cultural development in Broome, Chenango and Otsego counties!
Funding is available for cultural grants up to $5,000 through the 2012 Decentralization (DEC) Program. The DEC Program is available to all non-profit organizations, including municipalities and artists sponsored by a non-profit organization, in Broome, Chenango or Otsego counties.
In addition to this funding, the CCCA is delighted to announce an additional $10,000 for the 2012 Broome DEC Program provided by The Stewart W. and Willma C. Hoyt Foundation. These funds will be available to Broome County DEC applicants who were not able to be fully funded through the regular DEC process, and who are not currently receiving Hoyt funding.
The deadline for grant application is February 8th, 2012, 5pm.

The Broome, Chenango and Otsego Decentralization Grant Program is administered by the Chenango County Council of the Arts, and is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature. Additional funding for Broome County has been provided by the Hoyt Foundation.
2012 Chenango & Otsego Arts-in-Education Local Capacity Building Program
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- November 22, 2011
The Chenango County Council of the Arts is pleased to announce the continued availability of arts-in-education grants through the 2012 Local Capacity Building (LCB) Program.
The purpose of the LCB Program is to build capacity at the local level between schools and their arts partners (artists, arts organizations) in order to conduct successful arts-in-education programs that contribute to the learning and development of students in and through the arts.
Funds are available for multi-day in-school residencies and educational partnerships that focus on collaboratively planned and taught interdisciplinary curriculum with experienced artists or cultural organizations. All educators grades Pre-K-12 and non-profit cultural organizations in Chenango or Otsego County are eligible to apply. Projects must clearly address at least one of the four arts disciplines as described in the NYS Learning Standards for the Arts, and must address at least one non-arts curriculum with a minimum of 3 in-school artist-student contact sessions with a core group.
The deadline to apply is February 21, 2012, 5pm for opportunities through June 29, 2012 .
