THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN A COMMUNITY LIVING WILLOW INSTALLATION!

The public is invited to come and be a part of a community living willow installation in Guernsey Park, Norwich.  The public will design as well as the construct the living structure.

Bonnie Gale is the artist who will lead this project. She is a willow artist living in Norwich and is the recipient of an Individual Artist grant to fund this project. This funding is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Chenango County Council of the Arts. Her work is focused on spatial definition and containment and she has made her art and taught for the past 25 years. In the last five years, her work has moved from making baskets and other vessels to using large living rods that are planted in the ground and woven into structures that grow and become green. Structures have included living fences, domes, arbors, arches, sculpture and large-scale thematic installations. She has completed 10 installations to date, most in community and school settings. Local structures include the Lodge at the Rogers Center in Sherburne, the Arches on the grounds of Cornell Cooperative Extension Offices in Norwich and the Dome at the Susquehanna School in Binghamton. Her work can be viewed on the web site <www.bonniegale.com>.

Guernsey  Memorial Library is proud to partner with Ms. Gale in order to bring a living structure to Guernsey Park and give the public a great opportunity to be a part of the design and construction of the installation. Participation is free and will be exciting.  Planting will commence in early May. There will be a follow up maintenance session in August.

Come and be a part of this exciting living structure in Norwich this Spring!!

Please contact Bonnie Gale at 607.336.9031 or bonwillow@frontiernet.net with your questions or for more information.
