2018 DEC Grant Recipients
There were 53 applications this year – 16 from Broome County, 22 from Chenango County, and 15 from Otsego County. The amount of funding we had to regrant was the same as last year – $119,280 from NYSCA and $10,000 from the Stewart W. and Willma C. Hoyt Foundation (for Broome County applicants only), for a total of $129,280. The total amount of funding requested was $169,278 – almost $40,000 (31%) more than we had available to regrant.
Music was again the overwhelming type of art represented in the applications, with 20 applications requesting funding to pay for musicians or musical performances. Arts Festivals (10 applications) and Theater/Performing Arts (9) were the next largest categories. Six applications were for activities specifically involving children. Two applications involved crafts, and there was one application each for projects involving Poetry, Dance, Film, Underserved Populations, and Artist Residencies.
The Decentralization Grant Program is a re-grant program funded by the New York State Council on the Arts. The Chenango Arts Council is one of 26 DEC Sites throughout the state and has been administering the DEC Program for Broome, Chenango, and Otsego counties since 1986.
Applications are reviewed by a panel of artists, teachers, professors, and others involved in the arts from the three counties. Their funding recommendations are then approved by the Arts Council’s Board of Directors. The annual deadline is always late December/early January, and information for the 2019 grant cycle will be available on this website under the grants tab.
